"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

So I finally sold my Civic today. I've been talking about it for the past year or so, and now it's finally happened. It's a little bit bitter, sweet. But the couple that bought it were really cool and the guy is actually a mechanic, and owns an 03 Civic EX coupe that is also red. And they drove here to get it in a manual trans, late 90's 4Runner, that looked like it had seen a few adventures.
This is the last picture I'll ever take of Charmander. (the 8th gen is my neighbors.)
Here's a pic of my ride for now. lol.
So what should I get next? It has to be a sedan, or wagon, has to be manual, and less than 3300, which is what I sold mine for. Unless I keep going carless for a few months while I save up some more cash. I'm kinda thinking 1st or Second gen SHO, or (if I gave up a third pedal) a Volvo 960/V90.

How about a 98-02 Accord? Would you want another Civic?

Sold nice reliable and not-terribly-old Civic, wants to buy something twice as old and likely needing a bunch of work.

Nice, my first car was a pristine '93 960 sedan. Loved it. Great car...right up until the electrical gremlins arrived.

Never really liked those Accords they look so bloated and boring I did have a 97 tho, that was a great car.
I don't really want another Civic, I've owned A lot of Hondas, I think it's time I branch out a little. Unless it was a 4th gen hatchback(the best car I've ever owned, but I do need to comfortably seat 4 so that wont work.

I do want a CRX, I need to not have a CRX. No seats won't make the wife happy, and no cargo room won't make me happy. What I'm think tho is I could buy a cheap station wagon for moving people than things, and then buy a CRX/Del Sol for me.

OK, then how about a P11 G20? You might get a Camry or Corolla manual in your price range. There's also the Focus.
You might be able to get a Matrix or Vibe for 3k.
I'd suggest the 01-06 Elantra GT. Reasonable to find in your price range with a manual, and the hatchback does offer plenty of room.

I like the V90 a lot, but I'd go 740 wagon with a manual, since those /do/ exist, and redblocks are as indestructible as old Nokias and Jeremy Clarkson's ego.

If I fond one I"ll have to go check it out, but the manuals are rare. I'm also on the look out for a nice 240 Wagon, because I like the 240 better looks wise.

I know where one is for $400, but it'll need a timing belt, alternator mount bracket and a ton of suspension work.

Also, it's a 16 Valve car, so you'll need to tow it home... Because you never break timing belts, ever, on 16V cars. (This one is intact, but I wouldn't risk the drive.)

I guess I can't find too much fault in that strategy, since after the lease on my '13 135is ends, I want to get an '06-'08 Z4 M Roadster.

What about a 1998 Volvo S/V70? I've heard that this is the perfect year, as all of the bugs were worked out of the 850, and Ford had not changed anything yet.

I would say a wrx wagon but at that price range it would be scary. What about a Miata for $2500 and then like an old rusted out suburban for $1000. The suburban can transport stuff and people, and when you end up turning the miata into a track car, you will have a truck to tow it there lol.

also on the consideration list. There is a nice V70 turbo for sale not too far away, but the V90 just has a certain regal presents about it.

That's been runng thru my mind, but replace the Burban with a Volvo, and the Miata with a CRX.

For a $3300 budget, you'll only get an SHO or Volvo that probably needs another $3000 in work within the first year you own it.
Here are suggestions:

Hee hee hee... I thought it would be funny to suggest a Civic wagon to you right after you got rid of a Civic.
And for a little extra money, you can get this:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/…
Note I think the $5000 asking price is crack pipe... but offer them $3500.
Or you can get a nice Ford Focus Wagon for $2200:

This one is manual and has the 130HP Zetec engine.

That would definitely be a wonderful choice! Both in manual would be even better. I always think that people who drive a practical car "because they need to" just are not being creative enough lol.

Oh and consider this:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/…
Now with this Saab, it's only worth getting if you have a Saab specialist near you and you're fine with spending an extra $200/month on repairs/maintenance/misc stuff.
If these are taken care of and if you keep them stock (don't dial up the boost), the engines and transmissions will last 400,000km (~250,000 miles)
And I also found a newer Focus Wagon:

Manuals in that generation Elantra weren't very good. Esp if you came from a Honda

Looked at any Subaru's? Wagon, stick, easy to work on, cheap. Pretty reliable other than head gasket.

I have, I'd really like a bugeye Impreza Outback. The problem with Suburus is up here the hold their value so well, mainly because of their reputaion as safe winter vehicles, even rusted out with 200,000 miles the can still be over $2000.

Thats why you road trip it out of the salt belt. I would recommend that for anything older that you are wanting to buy. Way easier to wrench on. The Legacy/Outback are going to be more "refined" than the Forester and Impreza.
